Mulberry Gekkards
I recently repainted this piece using digital paint from an original color pencil drawing created in 2002 (see original below). The idea for it came from one of my favorite color pencil artist, Kristy Kutch, who paints extraordinary florals using color pencils. Whenever I would view her beautiful still life creations, I would always imagine little lizard creatures infiltrating the picture. This is where many of my early concepts began, by taking a still life image and placing the Gekkards within it. Looking for the right way to say Thank You!
While at an art show this past weekend, I encountered an array of remarks that reminded me why I’m grateful to do the work of an artist; a former school librarian said, “That my storybooks were always checked from their school library.”, a woman who just quit her job that day said, “Seeing my work gave her peace about her decision and inspired her to focus on her own business.”, a sixth grade teacher told me she reads my book every year to her class and they enjoy it very much, an adolescent boy opened his wallet to make a …
