Review: Casa Grande, AZ Street Fair
The Gekkards kicked off 2011 in Casa Grande, AZ this past weekend at the January Street Fair. I have not participated in this show for a few years, mostly due to taking time off during January. However, it was nice to see the fair has grown and the quality of artist & vendors has improved since my last visit. No Trespassing
The idea for this illustration began with a sketch of tortoises snorkeling within the reach of the octopus. A customer then emailed me, requesting if I had any art with a scuba diving theme? I modified the sketch to replace the tortoises with sea turtles and their snorkeling gear with scuba tanks. I thought it would be ominous for the sea turtles to dive a sunken U-Boat. The customer also provided me with some reference photos which gave me the inspiration to add the sharks in the background. The overall theme of the piece is stated in the title, “No …

“Gekkards Rule” Pencils
The new “Gekkards Rule” pencils arrived a few days ago printed by the Graphite Pen & Pencil Co. Pencils are a great promotional tool for the Gekkards. They tie nicely to our business, especially when you consider that every single painting I create, starts with some sort of pencil sketch. They are perfect to hand out to kids (and adults) at art shows, school visits and author signings. Each pencil also includes our website, in hopes the consumer will pay us a future visit.
